As they grow and their communication skills develop, most <strong>children learn to express their feelings <\/strong>with words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But some children have language disorders. They may have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>-Receptive language disorder<\/strong>A child has trouble understanding words he or she hears and reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>-Expressive language disorder.<\/strong> A child has trouble talking to others and expressing thoughts and feelings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A child will often have both disorders at the same time. Such disorders are often diagnosed in children between the ages of 3 and 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Which children are at risk for language disorders?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cause is often unknown, but children at risk for a language disorder include those with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Family history of language disorders.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Premature birth<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Low birth weight<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Hearing loss<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Autism<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Poor nutrition<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A child with Receptive Language Disorder may have problems with:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Understand what people say<br>-Interpret gestures of understanding<br>-Understand concepts and ideas<br>-Understand what he or she reads<br>-Learning new words<br>-Answering questions<br>-Following instructions<br>-Identifying objects<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A child with Expressive Language Disorder can understand what other people say but has trouble:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Use language.<br>-Trying to talk and often unable to express what you feel and think.<br>-It can affect both written and spoken language.<br>-And children who use
