At the VICON Method, we encounter many different types of children, and of course, many with limited interests who have great difficulty when faced with new things.
That's when the team behind the Method has its first challenge, because don't forget one thing... What you like so much today was also new one day!! To adapt the child to the program we need 4 essential points:
- Adapting to Child: We need to measure their timing, their "volume," their ideal spaces... to gradually introduce videos. There are several possible times: bath time, free play, the car, before bed... we need to find the balance that allows our little one to adapt smoothly and pleasantly.
- Never force him: Some children adapt to the method immediately, even after an unequivocal rejection, but others require more structure, less and more spaced-out exposure, with music first and then the video. If the child perceives the video as an obligation, we will have lost a resource for moving them toward language.
- Family constancy and intuition, The family's role is essential and directly influences the child's adaptation. Consider whether siblings are present or not. It is important to consider that the method is for the child, and any distraction can be an obstacle to proper stimulation. On the contrary, many siblings facilitate adaptation to the method as direct and central role models. The family is the ideal place to implement it due to its extensive overall knowledge of the child.
- Relying on our therapists, Not only do we have family, but we generally have a network of professionals around us who can help us successfully adapt to the method. In addition, the VICON Method assigns a Guide Therapist to help the family at all times with guidance and support and will accompany the entire stimulation process. Always ask Aid if you need it.
During the test phase, we need to see signs of an active response to stimulation in the child to consider them a candidate for stimulation. This includes effects in terms of attention, communicative intent, increased eye contact, improved response to interactions, and more calm and joy.
VICON Method is a pioneering program in online, professional stimulation,
proven and effective for children without language and with global difficulties in their development.
We look forward to seeing you in this testing phase!
