I am a child therapist, speech therapist, speech therapist, psychologist… Why use VICON Method within my sessions? How does this tool benefit my practice and my patients' progress?
We begin with a series of articles to learn how we implement the Method with our professionals, as a therapeutic tool within the session, and with our families, all in a single focus on child and adolescent treatment in the psychological, pedagogical, and early intervention fields.
The VICON Method has also been designed as a tool for use professional. A tool that is introduced into the family environment causing several changes:
- Power up our sessions: The constant stimulation the method provides between sessions enriches our sessions with new therapeutic challenges to address. A child with progress indicators requires extensive follow-up to generalize real-life learning, and that is an undeniable professional endeavor.
- It involves the family: Applying the method within the family environment ensures that we have an active family, participating in the process of their child, our patient, and this power is of utmost importance on a professional level. The method teaches small dynamics to the family that are easily reproducible and generalizable by the family within a framework of success and security that fosters family commitment.
- A motivating tool in the session: Introducing the same dynamic at home, in the classroom and in the session multiplies the interdisciplinary work, giving great richness to this learning. Each of the people involved in it, from their very specific and complementary role, enhances the establishment of this learning, making it meaningful and widespread in the child's most important environments.
- Consolidate the Team: All this cross-curricular work strengthens the dynamics between the key players, enabling better and more robust communication to be established, leveraging the resources of all involved to align goals, techniques, and resources, empowering each of the parties. It can be compared to when we allow our students to come to the classroom in pajamas during Carnival, or when they can bring their favorite toy after Christmas. The emotional and social impact on the child is of utmost importance, increasing motivation in all these important moments: at home, in class, and in the classroom.
