VICON Method Success Story

The Cristina Giménez Tenias Speech Therapy Clinic is a health center specialized in Speech Therapy and Neurofeedback TherapyIn addition, our services include literacy workshops for children between 5 and 11 years old.

The specialization offers individualized care to both children and adults, always maintaining the strictest confidentiality and close personal contact, in addition to rigorous professionalism.

The center has a room dedicated to the practice of speech therapy, another office dedicated to the neurofeedback therapy and a third multidisciplinary room used mainly for the reading and writing workshops that we offer here. This center uses the Vicon Method in their therapies since late 2019, and we conducted an exclusive interview with them to learn about how the Vicon Method has been implemented in their center. Don't miss it.

1.When should children go to the speech therapist?

There are indicators and symptoms that parents can observe in their children, for example:

-When my son speaks I have a hard time understanding him
-He only communicates with signs
-Only those of us at home understand him.
-If you have any problems pronouncing any sound
-When he speaks some sound is skipped or puts another one in place of the corresponding sound.
-If you frequently become hoarse
-If you breathe through your mouth
-If you notice that you have hearing problems
-If you have any reading and writing problems

2. What is the treatment like in children?

It works through play and activities they enjoy, thus we achieve the objectives we propose in the treatment in a more pleasant way.

3. How can a speech therapist help a child? To what extent can language disorders be treated?

It depends on the problem we are facing, some children with help and work can improve and to put themselves on the same level as their peersHowever, there are other children who improve and gradually achieve their goals.

4. In what other neurological diseases can the intervention of a Speech Therapist be essential?

Cerebral palsy, rare diseases, ASD, Down syndrome, language delays, among others.

5 How long have you been using the VICON Method in your center?

We started with this method in November 2019

6. How has the implementation of the VICON Method been in your patients?

It has been very easy, since parents always asked me for tasks to work at home and it is a good tool to work with them from home And we know that in the morning, at lunch and at dinner we are reinforcing objectives that are worked on in therapy.

7. How receptive have children been to the VICON Method?

It's been great, it's really worth it because the kids don't realize they're working, and the parents are delighted because they see they can do something from home.

8 Could you tell us a little about the results that the VICON Method has offered in your treatment?

The results have been very positive, I have seen children who could not even hold attention for 2 minutes and now they sit and work 20-30 minutes.
Even children who have not developed oral language repeat words that are in the videos.

9 How do children react to music therapy?

They love it, There are children who know all the songs, and those who do not yet speak or have not developed oral language, hum and sign.

11 Have you evaluated the VICON Method in your therapy?

I'm sticking with it because sometimes we get stuck in therapy, and I've seen that with this method, in these cases, we overcome this and continue achieving our goals.

It is an instrument that, when properly managed with speech therapy, can achieve much more than just the therapy itself.
