The ABA methodology isn't magic; it's structured, daily, and highly structured work in each of the child's environments. When we talk about the impact on a child's life, we must consider all the processes across all the different forms of intelligence we encounter, adapted to all the cognitive skills the child must develop to be autonomous and happy in the near future. In other words, we must see progress indicators in the shortest possible time.
Let's take the example that a person tries to learn English, for 45 minutes one hour a week.
Do we sincerely believe that this person will learn English?
in a functional, oral and written way?
And if we add to that that there is a disorder or
a learning deficit in that person?
To learn any language you need what is called a language immersion, and that means a minimum exposure to that language of about 20 hours per week.
THE INTENSITY
The need to apply intensive programs intervention in these children who also present developmental difficulties directly related to the learning of all these skills, we confirm that specific programs cannot produce significant changes due to a simple lack of exposure to learning of these skills or abilities that imply this evolution.
THE MOTIVATION
Another aspect directly linked to the intensity of the intervention is the issue of motivationIf we establish a program that requires extensive daily exposure to the intervention over a long period of time, it is extremely important that the child be immersed in a framework of enjoyment, which makes this learning natural, not only positive but also exciting.
Without intensity, a rigorous developmental program with exciting learning experiences, we will not be able to implement any intensive therapeutic program that will lead our children to a learning process that will be sustained in the medium to long term and mark a turning point in their development.
